Electrolysis hair removal is really the only method of hair removal that is truly permanent. But do keep in mind that it’s also expensive, time-consuming and definitely painful. So, the bottom line is, in spite of the fact that it’s permanent, do you really believe this time intensive process is something you’re willing to put yourself and your pocketbook through?

But first before you answer that question, you need to fully understand electrolysis hair removal and what it’s all about along with a little background information on this type of procedure. This way you can make a much more informed decision about what hair removal method is right for you.

So, at the very basic level. electrolysis is the practice of Electrology, which is the removal of unwanted hair by way of applying electricity. Next, comes the painful part. How this works is that a thin metal probe that carries a charge of electricity is inserted into the hair follicle where the hair is to be removed.

Yes, it’s true a charge of electricity is sent into the base of your hair which is deep inside your skin. Didn’t I tell you it was going to be painful? Now, let’s take a look at how this all came about in the first place.

The Three Separate Subcategories of Electrolysis Hair Removal Procedures

The first one to come along is called the Galvanic Method.

This method made it’s introduction into the medical journals back in 1875 as a cure for those suffering from trichiasis, which is ingrown eyelashes. This type of epilator was used to removed them.  How this works is that an electric current along with Sodium Hydroxide, which is a lye substance, is inserted into the hair follicle and the resulting chemical reaction kills off the hair matrix cells.

Now as far as I’m concerned, the description of electricity going into my chin, arm or leg is one thing. But sending an electric current along with lye right into the edge of my eye is not something I would want to ever consider. But then again an ingrown eyelash doesn’t sound very appealing either.

Thermolysis or what is also called Short Wave is the second of the subcategories.

Next to come along in the 1920′s was basically a radio transmitter that was used as a type of electrolysis hair removal. I guess that’s where the name Short Wave comes from. They use a radio frequency of 13.56MHz emanating from a probe going into the cells. These vibrations end up heating the molecules to 118°F, which bring about electro-coagulation of the proteins in the tissues causing them to die.

At first when you consider this type of procedure it doesn’t seem like it would be to bad. I mean how bad can a vibrating radio wave be? But when they start talking about heating up tissue until it dies, this sounds to me like they just burn that hair follicle to death. It actually doesn’t sound any more appealing than the first method.

The third and final method is appropriately named Blended.

It’s appropriately named as it actually is a blending of both Galvanic and Thermolysis methods introduced in 1948. So, if you didn’t think one method alone was bad enough they just made sure this electrolysis hair removal method is doubly bad and guaranteed to kill off those hairs once and for all.

Now all kidding aside, electrolysis hair removal is permanent so if you can handle the short term pain you can actually benefit from the longterm gain of never having to remove those unwanted hairs ever again. Yes, there is no denying it. You can choose any one of these three methods and it will effectively remove your hair once and for all. For this is the only permanent hair removal procedure and you can’t go wrong when there is over 130 years of medical research to prove it.
