Hair Removal for Women: Cultural Ritual or Complicated Chore?

Does it seem to you that hair removal for women has turned into an overly complicated chore?

Take the once simple act of shaving as an example. What more could any woman possibly need to remove hair from their body then a razor, some shaving cream and a little water, right? Wrong! Just take a look around at all of the recommendations these days for the different procedures, steps and products involved in hair removal. Some recommendations are several pages long.

It seems to me that shaving along with all the other forms of hair removal have really become complex rituals in our society today. Now, it may be that hair removal has always been a complex ritual but in our culture at this point in time it seems that this ritual has been taken to the extreme.

I know, you are saying that I should just take a look at the barber shops and beauty shops of the past. Now there’s a ritual for you. People gathered in these places on a daily basis to do more then just get their daily shaves or hairdos. Why they spent time there every morning and again in the evening to touch basis with friends and gossip about the latest local news.

Well maybe this is the reason we have now turned hair removal into the complicated ritual it is today. Since cities have grown so large and impersonal in most places around the civilized world, we no longer have the social connection associated with grooming in public on a daily basis.

So it appears that many people do need some kind of personal connection when it comes to personal grooming techniques. It also seems that we have found a way to fill this need for connection by sharing the latest and greatest techniques and products for shaving as well as all the other complicated techniques used for hair removal.

I don’t know about you but don’t you think there just has to be some other more rewarding way for all of us to connect on a personal basis then to turn something so simple as hair removal into something so complex that no one can figure out how to do it without some kind of advanced degree? (Gosh, that sentence is as complex as hair removal has become.)

What about fitness clubs. Isn’t there enough exposure to public grooming in these places that we could just leave hair removal alone?

For an example of how complicated things have become, take a look at the technique of laser hair removal. This has been touted to be the greatest invention since sliced bread and the latest most exciting news for women looking for a more permanent form of hair removal.

It may be very expensive and time consuming since it can cost as much as $1500 (and some say even more) for a series of 6 to 8 laser treatments on one localized area but its permanent right? Wrong again!

The results have been less then favorable. The hair may not grow back for three months but with some women it grows back even sooner. Wow, now calculate the cost of laser treatments as a regular form of hair removal and this new sliced bread can become quite expensive. And talk about needing an advanced degree to perform a hair removal technique. This is not something you can try at home to keep your cost down.

Don’t forget to ask for some form of local anesthetic for pain when you go for your treatments. It may not be as painful as electrolysis but there will be pain. Some women say there is more then enough pain to say “ouch” to during the treatments not to mention the swelling and redness on the treated areas after being zapped with that laser beam.

That’s 6 to 8 separate days of pain sever enough that some women require oral pain killers just to make it through each treatment. (Now I’m really going to say OUCH!)

Now remember, (This is worth repeating.) you will need 6 to 8 of these sessions for one area alone and this is not a permanent solution! There maybe less hairs and some returning hairs maybe finer and less noticeable then before the treatments but they will return in three months or less.

Can you imagine that. All that time, pain, expense and hassles and those disgusting little annoying hairs can’t even be kind enough to stay away for more then three months!

As stated earlier, it sure seems that hair removal for women has become an overly complicated chore and an extremely costly ritual in our society today.

All this hoopla over hair removal for women while there already is a very simple, back to basics hair removal product on the market today known as personal shavers. That’s right they’re available now and can be purchased quite inexpensively.

The best part about these personal shavers is that they’re so simple to operate that anyone, female or male, can use one on any part of their body without any advanced degrees, outrages expense or time consuming appointments.
